About this blog

So, I think I have come to a pretty good understanding of the role of this blog in my life in the short-term, as well as the role of this sort of experiment in the long-term.

I've learned over the last 18 days is that if I maintain acute awareness of my actions, my desires at all levels of consciousness will find a harmonious balance.

The moral, then, is that if I should lose this balance in the future, a dose of this awareness should suffice to restore it.  For example, if I find I'm eating out a lot, I can start keeping track of that, and soon I imagine I'll start finding a balance between eating out and eating in.  If I find I'm drinking a lot, I can keep a Big Red Calendar, and balancing drinking days with sober days will become a fun game.  If I find I'm procrastinating on learning new music, I can keep track of that.  Et cetera.

This means that the sort of comprehensive journalling I'm doing right now will not continue forever, but certainly the general technique will come in handy throughout the rest of my life!

That's the long-term picture.  For the short-term, I think I will continue the comprehensive journalling, as long as it is feasible to do so.  Why?  For a few reasons:

  • Right now in particular I have a lot of things I want to do, and this blog is helping me tackle them all.
  • I'd like to build up several months of awareness and powerful living, so that I have a fair bit of momentum once I stop the journalling.
  • Through this journalling, I feel my efforts in every part of my life are reinforcing my efforts in every other part.  Life has been such a joy lately, and keeping this journal has been part of that joy!

I think ideally I'd keep this blog going in full through the summer, and into the fall of next year, past the first surge of tutoring work.  That may or may not happen, of course, but that seems like a reasonable time to take off the training wheels.  :)
